WordPress for Life Coaches by Spin The Web has a pretty specific goal - to introduce you to the simplicity of using WordPress for building your own Life Coaching website.

WordPress makes it easy for you to get your first website online in mere minutes and with thousands to themes, plugins and widgets available you can add pretty much any capability that you can imagine…

And therein lies the problem. With so many plugins and features available many new coaches become overwhelmed by the vast amount of information surrounding building your first website…

Then there is website and domain hosting, databases, email, search engine optimization, html, css, analytics, ecommerce, social networking, blogging (this list can easily go on and on, but you get the idea) - you soon find that there is so much information - it’s like trying to take a drink from a fire hydrant.

So what do you do?
That depends - do you want to build your site yourself OR do you want to hire a professional?  Typical websites range between $1,500 - $2,750 though many sites can go quite a bit higher depending on how complicated they get…

If you are willing to do some of the work yourself - all you really need to learn is a few basics…

The Knowledge:
All you need to know for right now is you need to have a place to put your website online and you need a domain name (yourwebsite.com)

Register your domain name with godaddy.com and you can point the domain to any web host you want but the very best one to use is Spin The Web, of course…

That’s all you need to know about dot com names to get started…

The Basic Skills

You need to be able to setup a database on your host.
Almost all hosting accounts come with some sort of control panel.  It’s way beyond the scope of this article to go through a “how to” for each and every one but trust me, if you use a decent web host - it wont be that hard to find out where/how to setup a Mysql database…

You need to be able to save files on your computer and upload files to your website.
Sure, you can use a control panel file manager to do this but then the process of uploading or downloading files becomes a long drawn out one where you have to login to the control panel, navigate to correct area, select the file to be uploaded…

Keep it simple…
Why not open up a program that let’s you drag and drop stuff right to your website?  The right way to move files between your computer and your web host has been around forever - it’s called FTP - File Transfer Protocol and if you want to be able to build your own site you need to be able to get the files to your webhost - even if you use some control panel to install the site software - eventually you will need to know how to use an ftp program for something…

Can You Do It?
If you can get any ftp program, save it to your computer,  install it and run it - you have all the technical skills you need to get started building your own website.
