The short answer is YES - SSL DOES MATTER
This is not to say that every page one result is secured by SSL. It’s far from a magic bullet or anything close to that. It would be nice if all you had to do to get great ranking is enable SSL and BAM - you’re on the top of the front page now!
But that’s not it at all. You still need a properly SEO’d site to rank well.
This website - WordPress For Life Coaches has ranked well for it’s primary targeted since inception - it’s a website about WordPress for Life Coaches. It’s got a high percentage of content relating to wordpress for life coaches and google has always given it a high position in the space I focus on…
I enabled a free SSL certificate on it right around the time Google said it’s part of the algorithm, front page ranking stayed at about 2-3. Disabled the SSL - site fell to page two within days!
Crazy fast change - switched it back and now the site is back on the top of the front page as it should be!
Now if I would write an article now and then - it would be the number one site within a month…

Emra Smith, from the International School of Story, will walk from Savannah, GA, to Sarasota, FL, for 6-10 miles a day. Kathy Burnsed, Media and Time Management Consultant will accompany Emra.
As they travel, they will share how to spread HOPE and positive actions to help facilitate personal and community change.
Emra will share HOPE by giving free life-coaching phone calls as she walks
Emra, Kathy and Robby will be visiting homeless shelters and hospitals to spread HOPE
Hope rallies are scheduled during the walk for diverse audiences of women and men (check facebook.com/InternationalSchoolofStory for locations and times)
The following communities are slated for the Hope Walk Route:
In Georgia – Savannah, Tybee, Pembroke, Richmond Hill, Brunswick, St. Simons, Sea Island, Jekyll Island. In Florida – Fernandina, Jacksonville, Pontevedra, Orange Park, Gainesville, Ocala, Orlando, Kissimmee/St Cloud, Winter Haven, Lakeland, Brandon, Tampa, Sarasota

There’s also all sorts of freebies at least once a week and all of this is leading up to the launch of Divi 3
You really should go take a look and see what’s the big hoopla is all about…
Bloom scores big in my book! Not only does it integrate directly into almost all ESP’s it can also be configured to not use any!
It can display as a pop up with tons of “when” options, as an inline form (with lock out until you sign up options!) as a slider, etc…
All fully configurable visually and systematically - good job on this one too Elegant Themes!
